Over 100 free public toilets now available across Richmond borough

Richmond upon Thames has reached a milestone in its Community Toilet Scheme, with more than 100 facilities now available to residents and visitors across the borough — none of which require a purchase to use.

The network now comprises 63 participating venues, such as cafés, pubs and shops that open their facilities to the public, alongside 41 council-operated public toilets. The total comes to 104 locations borough-wide.

The scheme is particularly useful for older residents, families with young children, and people with bladder or bowel conditions who may struggle to plan outings around available facilities. Many of the venues offer unisex toilets, which the council says makes the scheme more inclusive and accessible.

For Barnes residents, the scheme means that a walk along the high street, through town centres or into nearby parks is less likely to be cut short. Participating venues display a Community Toilet Scheme sticker in their window.
